An antique novelty phallus pendant dating from the latter half of the 19th Century

It opens up to reveal two oval locket compartments for storing photographs or other small keepsakes

dated 11th November 1858 on the back

amethysts were considered an antidote against drunkenness - the name "amethystos" literally translates as "not intoxicated"

and were strongly endorsed by Rudyard Kipling who argued for ‘an end of the present curious arrangement by which our soldiers go marching here

It's fully set with old European cut diamonds, the silver settings having oxidised over the paste century and a bit creating a wonderful contrast with the icy white brilliance of the stones. It's beautifully made, 15k gold backed, and remains in great condition crafted circa 1880 and home to approx. 2. 33 carats of diamonds.
